Mount McKinley or Denali in Alaska is the highest mountain peak in North America, at a height of approximately 20,320 feet (6,194 m). It is the centerpiece of Denali National Park.

Dall Sheep (Ovis dalli dalli) inhabit the mountain ranges of Alaska. Dall sheep are found in relatively dry country and frequent a special combination of open alpine ridges, meadows, and steep slopes with extremely rugged "escape terrain" in the immediate vicinity. They use the ridges, meadows, and steep slopes for feeding and resting. When danger approaches they flee to the rocks and crags to elude pursuers. They are generally high country animals but sometimes occur in rocky gorges below timberline in Alaska.
Male Dall sheep are called rams. They are distinguished by massive curling horns. The females, called ewes, have shorter, more slender, slightly curved horns. Rams resemble ewes until they are about 3 years old. After that, continued horn growth makes them easily recognizable. Horns grow steadily during spring, summer, and early fall. In late fall or winter horn growth slows and eventually ceases. 5/23

Mount McKinley has a larger bulk and rise than Mount Everest. Even though the summit of Everest is about 9,000 feet (2,700 m) higher as measured from sea level, its base sits on the Tibetan Plateau at about 17,000 feet (5,200 m), giving it a real vertical rise of little more than 12,000 feet (3,700 m). The base of Mount McKinley is roughly a 2,000 foot plateau, giving it an actual rise of 18,000 feet (5,500 m).5/23

Back from Alaska

Hi to all watching the blog. I have not sat down at a computer for over 12 days and that is hard for some of you who know me to believe but I got a few pictures to share with all of you so be patient and stay tuned. We got back to Victoria BC today 6/01 and it will take me a few days to go through the pictures that I shot. We are having a great time and we are getting tired of living out of our suitcases. 30 days today but who's counting. The trip makes it all worth while. We have met some wonderful people and saw a lot of our Great Nation on our venture. We have a lot to be thankful for.

May 15th. 2007

Greetings To All,

This will be the last time you will be hearing from us, till we return from Alaska.
At present, we are in Port Angeles, we are not taking our lap top with us to Alaska!
All the way from the desert up the Pacific Coast we have had wonderful weather, beautiful sites, some much more than we expected.
We would have liked to have spent more time at some places, but with time constraints, it just wasn’t possible.
We will be house guest of Tom and Bernice Horn in BC, Vancouver, and will do site seeing of Vancouver with the Horn’s, and certainly look forward to their generous hospitality.
We hope those of you who have been following our trip on the blog site have enjoyed Mike’s picture’s, as we our certainly enjoying our trip together! We sure do miss all of you back home, stay safe, cool and healthy, we will think of you all this summer

Mike & Carol
